The illustrations were made by the British botanist and physicist Robert John Thornton, who lived in the years 1768–1837, and disseminated by the Biodiversity Heritage Library. The attached graphic shows the Pitcher Plant from 1807, also known under a less precise name as insectivorous plants, the representatives of which lure and capture animals with trap leaves adapted for this purpose and feed on animal food.
