This original illustration from the "Plants" series was done by Pierre-Joseph Redouté (1759- 1840), a Belgian painter and illustrator, known mainly for his perfect botanical illustrations.
Redouté's output is impressive, having left over 2100 plates depicting 1800 plant species, many of which were described for the first time. His watercolors and drawings of flowers were particularly popular.
The accompanying graphic shows the Magnolia liliiflora (Magnolia discolor).
