Poster with the Hubble Space Telescope from the "Technical Wonders" series.

The series presents the greatest technological achievements of the 20th and 21st centuries. The Hubble Telescope is a device constructed in the 1980s by the joint forces of NASA and the European Space Agency, orbiting the Earth, named after the American astronomer Edwin Hubble. On April 24, 1990, it was launched into orbit by the space shuttle Discovery during the STS-31 mission.

Since its launch in 1990, the telescope has become one of the most important instruments in the history of astronomy. HST is the result of a collaboration between NASA and the European Space Agency. Together with the Compton, Chandra and Spitzer telescopes, it is part of the Great Observatories.
