Poster with a reproduction of an illustration showing the cross-section of the brain, namely the basal ganglia. It is a group of nuclei that send projections to the cerebral cortex, thalamus, and brain stem. Mammalian basal ganglia perform a variety of functions related to movement control, cognition, emotions, and learning. The illustration was hand drawn by our artist and then digitally scanned. The illustration is taken from the 'Manual of Surgical Anatomy' of the United States Society of General Surgery and the US National Defense Council. The manual was prepared at the Department of Anatomy at the University of Illinois under the direction of A.C. Eycleshymer.
